Stamps is a free app designed to help people when life turns upside down. It provides a safe and supportive space for users to write about their experiences, either for private reflection or sharing with loved ones. Users also have the option to turn their app journals into memory books.
Life is full of ups and downs. When faced with challenges, some people prefer to process their feelings alone while others seek comfort in shared experiences and support from loved ones. The beauty of using an app like Stamps is that it caters to both approaches.
Whether dealing with the loss of a family member, close friend or child, or battling a chronic illness or disease, the Stamps app provides an outlet for users to express how they feel and preserve cherished memories on their own terms. This flexible approach has clearly resonated, as evidenced by the app’s 30,000-strong user base in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Upon downloading the app, you’re given the option of either sharing your own experience or following someone else’s. When sharing an experience, Stamps enables you to jot down your thoughts and feelings for reflecting on privately or sharing with loved ones. It also allows you to let friends and family know how you’re doing without the need for repeated conversations or discussions that you’re not quite ready to have in person.
Alternatively, if joining the Stamps app via invite, you can stay updated on your friend or family member’s wellbeing as and when they feel ready to share, as well as offer words of comfort or “stamps” – thoughtful gestures that let them know you’re thinking of them, such as cards and emoticons.
Users can also transform their app journals into memory books, with Peecho's Book Creator solution seamlessly managing the entire process. Stamps was founded in 2022 by mother and daughter, Pien de Ruig and Tess van Logtestijn. The catalyst for creating the app came when Pien was diagnosed with breast cancer for the third time in her life and started using a travel-tracking app to update her friends and family on her personal wellbeing and treatment progress.
The effectiveness of this communication method struck a chord with both Pien and Tess, inspiring them to create their own app. Pien explains, "We envisioned an app where anyone facing emotional challenges could share their journey with those closest to them. That vision became the Stamps app."
She continues, "Our core principle was to make the app freely accessible. After all, no one should feel alone when times get tough." Fast forward to today, and Stamps remains free for all users. The creation of custom printed memory books through Peecho serves as an important income stream for Pien and Tess, supplemented by donations and sales of small gifts. This model allows them to maintain the app's accessibility while sustaining its ongoing development.

Shortly after launching the app, Pien and Tess noticed a recurring theme. "We kept receiving requests from users asking if they could turn their app journals, including heartfelt messages from friends and family, into physical keepsakes like memory books. Some of these users had been documenting their journeys in the app for over a year, making them particularly meaningful."
And so began their search for a print partner specializing in print on demand books. Pien recalls, “We dedicated the latter part of 2023 to raising funds for this new feature and researching potential suppliers online. During this research, a tip led us to Peecho, who quickly emerged as our ideal partner.”

When asked about the future, Pien and Tess are resolutely ambitious. “We’re working on improving the Stamps app and increasing brand awareness. As a startup, we’re dependent on fundraising to fuel our growth and expand our reach. It’s time-consuming and challenging, but thanks to Peecho, we can now dedicate more resources to this crucial task.” And with a goal of connecting one million people through Stamps in the next five years, their determination serves as a reminder that even in our most challenging moments, we're never truly alone.
